I use part of my garage as a workshop and found that it gets intolerably hot in summer, particularly this year of 100+ temperatures here in S. Cal., so I decided to buy this portable a/c unit. I bought the 12,000 btu model because I did not think the 8,000 btu would be powerful enough, and there is little difference in price. The unit arrives in a sturdy box, so sturdy I doubt there would ever be any damage. The user manual is comprehensive and easy to understand. I made a "skirt" panel to exhaust the hot air, that fits under the garage door. I painted it brown, because the outside of the garage door is brown, and matches beautifully. The unit is very quiet on low speed, and if used in a bedroom I think even at higher speeds it would soon become "white noise" and barely intrusive. Remember, appliances like this draw quite a heavy current and need to be plugged directly into a wall outlet, not into a power strip or extension cord.

So far very pleased with this 12,000 BTU unit. I needed to add a 30" x 1x1" spacer in my window well so the window slider sat level. Once that was placed, I set up the whole unit in less than 30 minutes. Instant cold air!
